Neurontin is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. Neurontin is used in adults to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster).

Is gabapentin the same as neurontin?

Gabapentin was originally marketed under the brand name Neurontin. Since it became generic, it has been marketed worldwide using over 300 different brand names. An extended-release formulation of gabapentin for once-daily administration was introduced in 2011, for postherpetic neuralgia under the brand name Gralise.

How do I take Neurontin?

Take Neurontin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. If your doctor changes your brand, strength, or type of gabapentin, your dosage needs may change.

What is the difference between Neurontin & Horizant?

The brand Neurontin is used to treat seizures and nerve pain. Gralise is used for managing nerve pain only (not epilepsy). Horizant is used for nerve pain and restless legs syndrome. Your dosage of gabapentin will depend on your age, weight, and medical condition. You may need to start on a lower dose and gradually increase it.

Can Neurontin be used for neuropathic pain?
