What is Farxiga (dapagliflozin)?
Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is an oral medication that may be given to certain people with diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease to improve their outcomes. Specifically, Farxiga is used to: Improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus alongside diet and exercise
Does dapagliflozin increase ketoacidosis?
Dapagliflozin may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in your blood or urine) in people with type 1 diabetes. Dapagliflozin is not for use to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes who have moderate to severe kidney problems, because it may not work.
Can dapagliflozin cause low blood sugar?
If you take dapagliflozin with another medicine that can cause low blood sugar, such as a sulfonylurea or insulin, your risk of getting low blood sugar is higher. The dose of your sulfonylurea medicine or insulin may need to be lowered while you take dapagliflozin.

Dapagliflozin is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition that may develop if high blood sugar is not treated).
