How long does NovoRapid take to work?

NovoRapid will start to lower your blood sugar 10–20 minutes after you inject it, a maximum effect occurs between 1 and 3 hours after the injection and the effect lasts for 3–5 hours. Due to this short action NovoRapid should normally be taken in combination with intermediate-acting or long-acting insulin preparations.

How does NovoRapid compare to human insulin?

The studies compared NovoRapid with human insulin by measuring the level of a substance in the blood called glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c), which gives an indication of how well the blood glucose is controlled. NovoRapid reduced HbA1c levels by 0.12% and by 0.15% more than human insulin did after six months.

How does NovoRapid work?

NovoRapid is a replacement insulin that is very similar to the insulin made by the body but is absorbed faster by the body. This allows it to start acting faster than human insulin. The replacement insulin works in the same way as naturally produced insulin and helps glucose enter cells from the blood.

How do you use NovoRapid® insulin?

Pinch your skin between two fingers, push the needle into the skin fold and inject the insulin under the skin. Keep the needle under your skin for at least 6 seconds to make sure you have injected all the insulin. NovoRapid® should never be mixed with any other insulin when used in a pump.

What is NovoRapid insulin?

NovoRapid® is a rapid-acting analogue insulin for the treatment of diabetes. It differs from soluble human insulin by a single amino acid. This change enables it to act more quickly than injected soluble human insulin and to mimic more closely the body’s own insulin. NovoRapid® is called a bolus or mealtime insulin. How is it used?

Does NovoRapid work for diabetes mellitus?

NovoRapid is indicated for treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and above. The potency of insulin analogues, including insulin aspart, is expressed in units, whereas the potency of human insulin is expressed in international units.

What is a NovoRapid vial used for?

NovoRapid vial can also be used if intravenous administration of insulin aspart, by physicians or other healthcare staff, is applicable. Blood glucose monitoring and insulin dose adjustments are recommended to achieve optimal glycaemic control. The individual insulin requirement in adults and children is usually between 0.5 and 1.0 unit/kg/day.
