We tend to want to avoid feelings like frustration, anger, anxiety … but an amazingly useful meditation practice is to stay with the feeling for awhile. Just stay, and be curious. How much time do you need to meditate a day?

What are the different types of meditation practices & activities?
There are many types of meditation practices and activities you can do on your own. There are also activities you can do as part of a group. A meditation exercise can be as simple as doing some deep breathing, or as complex as repeating a mantra or doing Transcendental meditation.
How long should a meditation be?
A short meditation can be five minutes or less. If we feel like that’s not enough, a 10-minute meditation is great for beginners. Once we have a consistent practice, we can slowly increase our time. Be prepared for noisy distractions. We don’t need perfect quiet to meditate. Total silence might be too overwhelming in meditation for beginners.

Lori Snyder, long-time yoga and meditation teacher, author, and founder of the Writers Happiness Movement, says that there are so many different ways to meditate . Meditation is merely the act of observing and calming all the thoughts and emotions that arise in us as humans so that we can see what is real and true.
